The practice

How lessons work

Lessons are held in a classroom in Hillcrest and online, in groups or one-to-one. Amanda’s classroom is a calm, supportive place to learn, where learners can ask questions and make mistakes without embarrassment.

Most learners

Group lessons

Learners at the same level, working on the same syllabus. Group lessons suit senior primary and high school learners, and much of Amanda’s matric and Grade 11 teaching is done in groups. Learners hear each other’s questions and discuss texts together. Groups often bring together learners from different schools, and many enjoy the lessons: they compare ideas, help each other through the work, and make new friends along the way.

Intensive support

One-to-one lessons

For learners who find it difficult to work in a group, or who need intensive intervention or specialised individual tuition, including most remedial therapy. The length of each lesson depends on the learner’s age, competence and concentration.

Anywhere

Online lessons

Live lessons by video call, in groups or one-to-one, for learners across South Africa and abroad, and for local learners who prefer to learn from home.

Exam periods

Holiday and weekend sessions

Holiday tuition is often available during the September/October vacation for matrics who need extra support. Weekend lessons are offered during the May/June examinations, around the trials and before the November examinations, for Grade 11 and 12 learners.
